ALEXANDRIA, VA-More help has arrived for those struggling to pay rent during the coronavirus pandemic. In February, Virginia received $500 million from the federal government for housing assistance. Of that amount, $160 million is available to renters and landlords through the Virginia Rent Relief Program (RRP).

The City of Alexandria’s Eviction Prevention Task Force is encouraging residents to determine their eligibility, if assistance is needed.

This webpage can help people make that determination. If eligible, apply HERE, or call 211.

Landlords can apply on a tenant’s behalf for help with delinquent payments from April 1, 2020 to the present. Renters who received assistance in the past through the Rent and Mortgage Relief Program are welcome to re-apply through RRP.

Office of Housing

The city’s Office of Housing is also offering assistance.  Residents who have received a 5- or 14-Day “Notice to Pay Rent or Quit Property,” a court summons or an eviction notice should call 703-746-4990.
