Learn How to Stay Safe Online: Free Event in Alexandria Oct. 14

ALEXANDRIA, VA-Want to learn about staying safe while online? The city’s Commission on Information Technology is hosting an information session Saturday, Oct. 14 called “Building Your Secure Digital Future.”

The event, made possible with the collaboration of Computer CORE, starts at 10 a.m at the Del Pepper Community Center (4850 Mark Center Drive). It is free and open to the public.

“This event brings together the worlds of cybersecurity, education, and workforce development,” reads the Alexandria eNews bulletin. “[It offers] insights and strategies to navigate the digital landscape while enhancing your professional journey. ”

Designed for people who have basic knowledge of computers and the internet, this learning opportunity will address the following topics:

  • How can social media impact education and businesses?
  • Safeguarding against identity theft, phishing, and other common cyber threats
  • Elevating parental peace of mind: Navigating cybersecurity for students
  • Empower your business: Harnessing employee impact, fortifying cyber defenses, and navigating social media

Keynote speakers will be present, but the bulletin only identifies them as ACPS students and business owners.

A portion of the meeting will focus on what job seekers need to know about cybersecurity. An outline of the full agenda is below:
