Fallace, a highly-skilled neurosurgeon who for seven consecutive hours led a team of surgeons and specialists through the delicate procedure.

After months of radiation, rehabilitation and physical therapy in the spring and summer of 2014, Malone is currently cancer-free with the strong desire to both raise money for cancer research, and to additionally honor and highlight the dedicated work of his military and civilian medical team at the John P. Murtha Cancer Center at Walter Reed, and the Radiation Oncology Clinic at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital

Malone will ‘stand up’ for 24 straight hours, once again, (joined by Lisa, and her sister, Beth Reed, at Fire Works), for twenty-four hours straight, non-stop, kicking off their fundraiser at exactly 4:26 pm, on Friday, February 10, and finishing at 4:26 pm, on Saturday, February 11, 2017. Lisa Malone had successful surgery to remove an Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma Tumor (UPST), from her left thigh on Sunday, February 1, 2015.  The surgery was completed by, Dr. Felasfa Wodajo, Orthopedic Oncologist, Sarcoma Specialist, and the dedicated team of medical professionals at Virginia Hospital Center, in Arlington, Virginia.

What was a small lump in her thigh that Lisa originally thought was a pulled muscle from hiking, turned into a lengthy journey, including: ultra-sound, biopsies, six weeks of daily radiation, CAT scans, MRIs, many tears, lots of laughs, and ultimately very successful surgery to remove the tumor.

Lisa heartily thanks the dedicated team of medical professionals at Virginia Hospital Center enough, and Dr. Wodajo, who is currently with Virginia Cancer Specialists, in Fairfax, Virginia.   She additionally thanks for all of the ongoing and continuing support from friends and family.

Lisa notes in reflection of her battle with cancer: As the creator of the Simpsons, Sam Simon, said about his own battle with cancer, “It’s been a fight, it’s been an adventure, it’s been an education, it’s been the most amazing experience of my life.”
