ALEXANDRIA, VA – Pride month has finally rolled around, and is being celebrated all across the community! To commemorate Pride month this wild year, Safe Space NOVA, Alexandria Makers Market, and Athena Rapid Response Innovation Lab are hosting an event on Sunday, June 27, called “Growing Pride at The Garden.” This is the first time this event is being held, and Alyssa Kovach, the Founder of Alexandria Makers Market “The goal from the beginning was to bring the community together to celebrate our LGTBQ+ family, friends, neighbors, allies, and local businesses.”
Growing Pride will consist of 15 local LGBTQ+ makers and allies with locally crafted goods available for sale, yoga, rock climbing, live music, kid activities, and more! There will also be food trucks and treats to enjoy, such as delicious BBQ from Hog-it-Up BBQ, and Anita’s Frozen Cotton Candy! Some notable musicians and bands that will be in attendance include PRINCESS, Hunter Lang, and Lacklustre. When asked what aspect of the event was in her opinion, the most noteworthy, Alyssa Kovach stated that “We are looking forward to enjoying a day of community through good food, great music, amazing local makers, and fun activities for the whole family. It’s hard to pinpoint the “piece de resistance” because each person and brand involved really amplifies the event as a whole.”
According to Kovach, The details of the event were primarily planned by both Alexandria Makers Market and The Garden. The organization asked Safe Space NoVA to partner “Because we (Alexandria Makers Market) believe in their mission of “providing a safe, accepting, and supportive environment to combat social stigmas, bullying, and other challenges faced by LGTBQ+ youth.” The Organization also partnered with Athena Rapid Response Innovation Lab, a non-profit who is partnered with Building Momentum/The Garden. Athena Rapid Response will be the organization that all money raised from the event will go through, and they will make the donation to Safe Space NOVA through Eventbrite.
Growing Pride will take place on Sunday, June 27, from 2-7 pm EDT at 5380 Eisenhower Avenue, Suite C. The event will be inside the event space and workshop, along with outside on the patio. TO REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT, you can go to Eventbrite HERE.
