Does Alexandria Have the Next Gerber Baby Face?

ALEXANDRIA, VA – It could happen. In 1928, Gerber sent out the call for submissions in a search for an image for their advertising campaign. Dorothy Hope Smith entered an unfinished charcoal sketch, writing she would complete it if she won. That sketch was the winner as you know, and became the iconic face for Gerber baby foods.

The identity of the original baby was not made public until 1978 when the world learned that now 93-year old Ann Turner Cook was the famous face, dispelling urban myths that suggested it had been a Humphrey Bogart, Elizabeth Taylor, Sen. Bob Dole or Jane Seymour. (Photo: Gerber Baby Foods)

On February 5, the company launched its 2020 photo search for a new baby ambassador celebrating 10 years of providing parents and caregivers across the country the opportunity to see their little one become Gerber’s national Spokesbaby. From now through Feb. 21, parents or legal guardians of children from birth to 48 months are encouraged to submit their little one’s photo and story on Gerber’s online submission portal for a chance to have their child serve as a Gerber ambassador for the year.

Launched a decade ago, Photo Search was inspired by countless photos sent by parents who see their little one in Gerber’s iconic baby logo. Photo Search celebrates babies from all backgrounds and the promise to do “Anything for Baby”.

“As we celebrate our 10th anniversary of Photo Search, we’re extremely proud to look back on all of the babies that we’ve celebrated and to continue Gerber’s long-standing heritage of recognizing that every baby is a Gerber baby,” said Gerber President and CEO Bill Partyka. “We always strive to make each year of Photo Search bigger and better than the last, and we encourage families all over the country to submit their little ones for a chance to be a part of this special year with us.”

For 2020, Gerber has updated its Photo Search entry process to allow you to include photos and videos of your little one and to share stories about your family. To enter your child in the 2020 Photo Search and to read the official entry rules, visit Gerber’s online submission portal at photosearch.gerber.com.
