ALEXANDRIA, VA–On Sept. 11, 2021, The Fraternal Order of Eagles 871 hosted a Dining for Charity event with 7 participating Alexandria restaurants.
This event was held with the primary purpose of raising funds for nonprofit Homes for Our Troops. Each year, the sitting FOE President chooses a charity to support. This year, FOE 871 President Rock Ruark selected Homes for Our Troops, and at the end of his term, all the funds collected throughout the year will be presented to his selected charity.
The 9/11 Dining for Charity event was just one of the many fundraising opportunities FOE will be hosting this year, and it was an immense success.
Each participating restaurant could choose to donate either $911 of the evening’s proceeds, or 9.11% of the evenings proceeds to FOE. Altogether, the 7 restaurants raised over $5,000.
“We are very thankful for the participation from those businesses,” states President Ruark.
The evening was beneficial not only for Homes for Our Troops, but also for the participating restaurants. Ruark explains, “We got a lot of feedback from patrons who decided to dine at participating restaurants that they had never been to. It was good exposure for the restaurants.”
In fact, Ruark details that Bella Napoli in Del Ray was busy all day long!
At the end of Ruark’s Presidency, he will present Homes for Our Troops the total funds raised throughout his term. Those funds will be put towards building a house for a Marine Corporal who was wounded in Afghanistan in 2011.
