Local Couple Canoes 100 Block of King Street in Old Town Alexandria During Flood
ALEXANDRIA, VA – Channel 7 reporter Victoria Sanchez captured the light-hearted attitudes among many in Old Town Alexandria as high-tide and heavy rains converged on Friday afternoon, October 29, 2021.
A couple was spotted setting sail in a canoe down the main drag of King Street, in what is now permanently reserved only for pedestrians these days, since a recent City Council vote. “Any time it gets up high enough that I can do this, you know, why the heck not,” said Mr. Harmon, who expertly paddled the craft from sidewalk to the streaming street.
Sporting life jackets and recalling the spirits of Venice gondoliers, the pair laughed and gathered plenty of happy attention.
