Alexandria Centenarians Celebration at City Hall

Alexandria, VA – On September 13 at City Hall, Alexandrian Centenarians were honored with a public celebration of their longevity, wisdom, and advice on living a life that has seen history unfold over the past 100 years. Mayor Justin Wilson welcomed those in attendance – Anita Du Mars, 101; Walter Hammersley, 100; Phillip Melville, 100; and Frances Webb, 102.

The mayor shared an overview of their extraordinary lives. Attendees enjoyed the reception. The event honoring these special residents is in its second year. It was the first time that centenarians were honored in person. The City’s Successful Aging Committee planned the evening working with Mark McHugh in the Mayor’s Office. Each person honored received a certificate, a challenge coin, and a birthday card signed by city officials and guests.
