ARLINGTON, VA –  Patrick J. “Pat” Malone, a seven-year cancer survivor, and 20-year Air Force veteran will ‘stand up to cancer’ for 24-hours straight, during his Seventh Annual Stand Up To Cancer® (SU2C) 24-Hour Fundraiser, beginning at 4:26 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, and ending at 4:26 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2021, at Fire Works American Pizzeria & Bar, 2350 Clarendon Blvd., Arlington, VA 22201 (fireworkspizza.com/arlington).

Malone had successful surgery for an exceedingly rare form of cancer, Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor (MPNST), on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), in Bethesda, Maryland, with 29 subsequent bouts of radiation at the Radiation Oncology Clinic, at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital (FBCH), Fort Belvoir, Virginia. After seven years since his surgery, Malone is in good health, cancer-free, and living in Alexandria, Virginia.

Additionally, Malone selected SU2C to annually ‘pay it forward’ to honor the doctors, nurses, and medical technicians at both WRNMMC and FBCH, who saved his life, and the countless lives of other members of the armed forces, civilians, and their dependents. 100 percent of all donations made to SU2C, during this fundraiser, will go directly to the frontlines of cancer research to eliminate the dreaded disease.

Fire Works opens at 11:00 a.m., and closes at 10:00 p.m., seven days a week.

About Stand Up To Cancer

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) raises funds to accelerate the pace of research to get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now. SU2C, a division of Entertainment Industry Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, was established in 2008 by media and entertainment leaders who utilize these communities’ resources to engage the public in supporting a new, collaborative model of cancer research, to increase awareness about cancer prevention, and to highlight progress being made in the fight against the disease. As of August 2020, more than 1,950 scientists representing more than 210 institutions are involved in SU2C-funded research projects. Under the direction of our Scientific Advisory Committee, led by Nobel laureate Philip A. Sharp, Ph.D., SU2C operates rigorous competitive review processes to identify the best research proposals to recommend for funding, oversee grants administration, and ensure collaboration across research programs.

Current members of the SU2C Council of Founders and Advisors (CFA) include Katie Couric, Sherry Lansing, Kathleen Lobb, Lisa Paulsen, Rusty Robertson, Sue Schwartz, Pamela Oas Williams, and Ellen Ziffren. The late Laura Ziskin and the late Noreen Fraser are also co-founders. Sung Poblete, Ph.D., R.N., serves as SU2C’s CEO. For more information, visit StandUpToCancer.org.
