Tickets Available: Unique Dance and Music Collaboration in Alexandria, November 12

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Local Motion Project and Yellow Door Concert Series have partnered to create “Intersections,” a series of evenings with live jazz music and featured sections of contemporary dance.

The relaxed social vibe will allow the audience to experience the improvisational interplay between music and dance. The first “Intersections” performance will take place on Friday, November 12 from 6:30-9:00pm at The Garden and Building Momentum (5380 Eisenhower Ave Suite C, Alexandria, VA 22304). Vaughn Ambrose, co-founder of Yellow Door Concert Series, will be premiering two pieces of music “Inner” and “In the Middle” written specifically for this collaboration with LMP Collective dancers.

LMP Collective is the adult performance ensemble of Local Motion Project. The ensemble embodies a commitment to hiring dancers who are diverse in age, gender, race and ethnicity, and at various stages of life, both personally and professionally, many of whom have put performance on hold for parenthood and/or other career choices. Often working with dancers over the age of 40, this ensemble works to expand the often-limiting definition of what dance is and who can do it. This 2021-2022 season, Local Motion Project is curating performances in multiple locations throughout Alexandria to reach new audiences, foster new collaborations and partnerships, and develop relationships with those in attendance.

The Yellow Door Concert Series was founded in 2018, by Alexandria musicians, Robyn and Vaughn Ambrose. Their mission is to bring communities together to experience live art music in a way that is a look back in time, to the parlor concerts of the early 20th century. They aim to  create small intimate listening opportunities for musicians and audiences to gather and share.
