Apply to Join Alexandria School Board; Special Election Scheduled Jan. 9, 2024

Paperwork due by Tuesday, Dec. 5

ALEXANDRIA, VA-Following the resignation of Willie F. Bailey from the Alexandria City School Board, the city’s Circuit Court has called for a special election on Jan. 9, 2024.

Interested in becoming a member of the School Board and helping to make decisons about the direction of Alexandria’s public schools?

This election is specifically for District A. Elections are nonpartisan, and candidates are required to run as independents.

Documentation is due by Tuesday, Dec. 5 to the Voter Registration & Elections. Include the following:

  • Declaration of Candidacy
  • Candidate Petitions (with 125 signatures of qualified voters from School Board, District A)
  • Certificate of Candidate Qualification
  • Statement of Economic Interests
  • Statement of Organization

All individuals filing for candidacy are required to submit campaign finance reports reqularly.  Note that the signed Statement of Organization must be turned into the Office within 10 days of meeting any of the following conditions:

  • Acceptance of a contribution
  • Expenditure of any funds
  • The payment of a filing fee for any party nomination method
  • The filing of a candidate statement of qualification
  • The appointment of a campaign treasurer, designation of a campaign committee or designation of a campaign depository

The Office posts Statements of Organization immediately upon receipt.
