Alexandria, VA – It’s a homecoming of sorts for new West Potomac Principal Jessica Statz, who officially assumed the position on November 20. She was a familiar face at the school from 2016 to 2020 as WP’s Assistant Principal and then Acting Principal. Statz supervised the social studies and performing arts departments and the safety and security team during that tenure.

In the interim, she was Assistant Principal and Acting Associate Principal at Hayfield Secondary School. Before that, Statz was an Assistant Principal at Langley High School for eight years.

According to Dr. Grace Taylor, Interim Assistant Superintendent of FCPS Region 3 (including the West Potomac Pyramid), “Statz’s work centers on cultivating a safe and positive school climate. She prioritizes building a positive school culture and has spearheaded Restorative Justice processes and student service projects. Her commitment to placing students first and creating a sense of belonging addresses critical issues such as chronic absenteeism, discipline disproportionality, and on-time graduation requirements.

“Principal Statz is known for her strong presence, open communication, and active participation in school events. Furthermore, she has deep roots in the community and is dedicated to partnering with families and local leaders.”

Statz earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Secondary Education degree from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, a Master of Educational Leadership degree from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, and a second Master of Educational Leadership degree from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
