275 “Waynewood Witches” Raise $14,000 for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
ALEXANDRIA, VA- The sold-out event showcased 275 “witches” in this year’s annual Waynewood Witch Ride. The group officially became a non-profit organization this year, surpassing its goal and raising $14,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). This past October these dressed up witches “flew” along a 3-mile route riding their bikes instead of brooms, distributing candy throughout the Waynewood neighborhood.
Mary Herbert, cohost of the ride, stated on social media, “Watching the community come together is high on my list of best parts of this ride.” Herbert continues, “This event started small and has grown, but the message behind this evening is to include anyone what wants to be involved in doing good and flying for LLS.”
Neighborhood Witch Rides started in 2015 in Alabama, when Amanda Bacon and her friend rode as witches and raised money for a local animal group. Now these popular fundraising events occur all around the country raising money for many different charities.
