Alexandria, VA – Parade Registration is now open!

The City of Alexandria’s George Washington Birthday Celebration Committee announced that the City’s annual celebration of George Washington’s birthday will return in 2025, culminating with the George Washington Birthday Parade on Saturday, February 15, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The theme of the 2025 George Washington Birthday Parade is “George Washington: America’s Commander-in-Chief” in honor of the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolutionary War. The event, the oldest and largest parade of its kind in the country, traditionally attracts tens of thousands of spectators to Old Town Alexandria to cheer on over 1,500 diverse participants.

Parade registration is now open and the link to register can be found at www.washingtonbirthday.com. “We encourage parade participants to think about how they can celebrate George Washington as Commander-in-Chief, American independence, our servicemen and veterans, or patriotism,” said Parade Director Sue Johnson. “We’re looking forward to seeing everyone’s creativity!”

The 2025 parade will be held on Saturday during the three-day holiday weekend in Alexandria instead of Monday, the day the city officially recognizes Washington’s Birthday, because of the higher costs of city security personnel on city holidays. The majority of funds to support the parade, including the cost of the security team that ensures public safety on a day when there are large crowds lining the streets, comes through private sponsorships and donations. To learn how to support the parade, visit www.washingtonbirthday.com under “Donate”.

The full schedule of February events honoring Washington’s birthday in his adopted hometown will be made public by the end of the year.
