On the Mend: Low Pressure Complaints Due to Alexandria Water Main Breaks
ALEXANDRIA, VA – Social media started dripping with comments about low water pressure in parts of Old Town Alexandria today.
Deborah Adams, posed the question in her Next Door feed, asking, “My building in Canal Place condos in North Old Town is experiencing low water pressure. Anyone know if something is happening in the area that could be causing this?”
Right away, answers flew in from Slaters Lane to South Fairfax Street. Some mentioned possible water main breaks, so Zebra reached out to the fountain of all local water information, Marybeth Leongini, at the American Water Company.
“Yes,” she replied, “There was a break on an 8” main near 4700 King St. Repairs are underway and only one customer has had their water shutoff as repairs are made. Work is expected to be completed by 9PM.”
And regarding the other complaints from earlier in the day, Leongini answered, “We purchase water from Fairfax Water and they experienced a break on the 24” water main which is the main feed to this area of the City. As of around noon, the break has been repaired and pressures returning to normal levels.”
