ALEXANDRIA, VA – The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce welcomed its new chairperson, LaJuanna Russell, during a reception on April 10 at the ALX Community at 227 South Washington Street in Alexandria.

Russell shared some of her favorite things  with Zebra after her remarks that evening.

1.  Sports. Was it the “Jersey & Jeans” dress code or her opening remark, “You all know that I must absolutely love the Alexandria Chamber because the Caps are playing tonight. Luckily for the Chamber, OV [Ovechkin] already passed the record” that convinced us?

2. Entrepreneurship. “I think everyone should be an entrepreneur. I say that to people all the time.” As the founder of Business Management Associates, she knows a thing or two about striking it out on your own.

3. Small Business. “Small businesses help this country run,” she said. “Large businesses and small businesses working together make this country phenomenal…I want to pour that passion and understanding of how all of these ecosystems work and [pull] all that together.” Russell plans to help them grow, make connections, and advocate for them.

4. Bringing more government business to Alexandria. “We’re going to get a government contracting council on this Chamber.” To her friends in the audience she joked, “and you’re going to join it and be happy that you did!”

5. Having fun. “I’m really excited to serve this year,” she pledged before adding, “then we’re going to party and dance like crazy people!”
