ALEXANDRIA, VA — On Sunday, May 4, community members from across the region will gather at Bren Mar Park in Alexandria for the 17th annual NAMIWalks Northern Virginia, the area’s largest mental health awareness and fundraising event. Organized by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Northern Virginia, this powerful community walk aims to celebrate recovery, raise critical funds, and break the stigma surrounding mental illness.

Since its launch in 2008, NAMIWalks Northern Virginia has become a beacon of hope for individuals affected by mental health challenges, as well as their families and friends. The event brings together corporate sponsors, local organizations, advocates, and passionate individuals for a shared mission: Mental Health for All.

More of a movement than a walk, the funds raised will provide vital education, support programs, and advocacy for people living with mental illness in our community and beyond.

Proceeds from the walk directly support NAMI Northern Virginia’s work. This includes free mental health education, peer support, and outreach efforts across the region. The organization’s programs aim to improve lives by advocating for equitable access to healthcare, housing, education, and employment.

With mental illness affecting one in five adults in the U.S., events like NAMIWalks are more than symbolic. They are essential. Organizers are calling on the public to step forward, lend their voices, and join the effort to create a more understanding and supportive society.
