Alexandria Debuts First-Ever ‘State of Arts ALX’

City to spotlight artists, organizations, and the power of creativity

Alexandria, VA — Alexandria’s arts scene is stepping into the spotlight with the launch of the inaugural State of Arts ALX event on Wednesday, October 15, at 8:30 a.m. at the Boeing Auditorium, Virginia Tech Innovation Campus (3625 Potomac Ave.).

Hosted by the City of Alexandria’s Department of Recreation, Parks, and Cultural Activities – Office of the Arts, the free event invites residents, artists, arts professionals, and community leaders to celebrate the city’s creative spirit.

“This curated forum celebrates Alexandria’s vibrant arts community by showcasing the work of the Office of the Arts and honoring the individuals and organizations that shape the city’s creative landscape,” said Diane Ruggiero, Deputy Director of Cultural Activities, RPCA. “This event is designed for artists and their art’s missions to be seen.”

Highlights include a keynote from Jen Goold, Executive Director of the Neighborhood Design Center, as well as a reading by Alexandria Poet Laureate Maria Cristina Donoso. Guests will also enjoy AV displays of local arts achievements, networking opportunities, refreshments, and exhibits from arts organizations across the city. Vice Mayor Sarah Bagley will also be in attendance.

State of Arts ALX is free and open to the public. Artists, arts organizations, board members, elected officials, and community stakeholders are encouraged to attend.
