Alexandria, VA – It’s not your average cleanup! Four powerhouse conservation groups are teaming up for the Mega Trash Bash on Saturday, November 15, and they’re inviting the entire community to roll up their sleeves and help fight litter along our favorite local trails and waterways.

Volunteers from across Northern Virginia will fan out to clean up beloved outdoor spots including the Mount Vernon Trail, Daingerfield Island, Four Mile Run, Rosslyn-Ballston, and nearby streams that feed directly into the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay.

The event is a joint effort by:

  • Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail
  • Potomac Conservancy
  • Four Mile Run Conservatory Foundation
  • NOVA Cleanups

Together, they’re aiming to pull hundreds of pounds of trash before it can harm wildlife, clog waterways, or junk up our parks.

“Trash left on our trails and streets doesn’t just stay there—it washes into our rivers and ultimately the Potomac,” said Anna Cooper, a volunteer leader with Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail. “When neighbors pitch in together, we can make a huge difference in just a few hours.”

It’s family-friendly and all supplies—trash bags, gloves, and gear—are provided. Just bring a water bottle, wear comfy clothes, and come ready to make a visible impact.

Last year, volunteers hauled out thousands of pounds of trash, from plastic bottles to rogue tires. This year’s Mega Trash Bash aims to rally even more neighbors to show some love to the trails and the river we all share.
