ALEXANDRIA, VA – With many residents feeling the financial effects of the ongoing government shutdown, Virginia American Water is reminding customers that several assistance programs and flexible payment options are available to help with their water and wastewater bills.

“Virginia American Water is sensitive to the fact that some of our customers may be impacted by the government shutdown,” said Charlie Piekanski, Vice President of Operations, Virginia American Water. “Our goal is to provide every customer with safe, clean, and reliable drinking water and wastewater services without placing further strain on their finances. We offer a variety of programs designed to ease financial stress and encourage customers to explore these assistance options.”
Customer support programs include:
- H2O Help to Others – Offers grants of up to $500 per year for qualifying customers.
- Payment Arrangements – Customers unable to pay by the due date can visit MyWater or contact customer service before the due date to discuss available payment plans.
- Budget Billing – A free program that provides predictable monthly payments to avoid seasonal billing spikes.
- Installment Plans – Extends the time to pay a past-due balance by spreading payments over several months.
- Preferred Due Date – Eligible customers can request an adjusted due date that better fits their budget.
