Alexandria, VA – A new Indian street food eatery has arrived in Alexandria. Bombay Canteen, from restaurateur Asad Sheikh and chef-partner Nishi Barua, opened on Valentine’s Day at 2010 Eisenhower Avenue.

The restaurant blends a modern, colorful setting with a menu inspired by Mumbai’s street food culture. Dishes include slow-cooked curries, vada pav—spiced potato fritters tucked into soft buns—layered chaats, and fragrant biryanis. For dessert, house-made gelatos feature flavors such as mango lassi, rose petal, and cardamom.

Inside, bright murals and playful pom-pom accents pay homage to Bollywood’s golden era, giving the space a lively, nostalgic feel.
