Alexandria Earns Top 10 Ranking Among America’s Best Cities

Travel + Leisure Readers Name Alexandria One of the Nation's Best Cities for the Fifth Consecutive Year

ALEXANDRIA, VA – Alexandria continues to earn national recognition as one of America’s premier travel destinations.

Visit Alexandria announced that Alexandria, Virginia, has once again been named one of Travel + Leisure’s “Best Cities in the U.S. as part of the magazine’s prestigious 2026 World’s Best Awards. Alexandria ranked No. 9 this year, marking the fifth consecutive year the city has earned a place among the nation’s top 10 destinations.

The annual rankings are determined by votes from Travel + Leisure readers, placing Alexandria alongside celebrated destinations including Santa Fe, Savannah, New Orleans, and Charleston.

National Recognition Continues

In recognizing Alexandria, Travel + Leisure praised the city for its unique blend of history, culture, and modern attractions.

“Combining colonial history and contemporary style with waterfront scenery, great food, and outdoor fun, Alexandria has everything a visitor could want, and its location just minutes from Washington, D.C. is a bonus.”

The publication also highlighted positive feedback from readers who continue to rank Alexandria among their favorite destinations in the United States.

Visit Alexandria secured the city’s nomination and led an extensive community voting campaign that encouraged residents, businesses, and visitors to support Alexandria in the annual survey.

National recognition from respected publications such as Travel + Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler plays an important role in strengthening Alexandria’s reputation as a premier travel destination. These accolades also support Visit Alexandria’s year-round marketing and public relations efforts while helping influence future travel decisions and enhancing the city’s appeal as a place to live, work, visit, and play.

Visit Alexandria extends its sincere appreciation to everyone who participated in the 2026 Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards survey and helped Alexandria earn another top-10 national ranking.
