ACPS Childcare Bus Request Priority Deadline Is Monday, August 10
Requests received by Aug. 10 can be processed before traditional-calendar schools open Aug. 24; ACPS will pause reviews from Aug. 11 through Aug. 28.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria City Public Schools families who need a child transported to or from daycare, a recreation center or another address should submit their alternate-transportation request Monday, Aug. 10.
ACPS identifies Aug. 10 as the priority deadline for childcare and afterschool transportation requests to be processed before the first day of school. Most ACPS students return Monday, Aug. 24.
Alternate transportation applies when a student needs service to or from a location other than the bus stop assigned using the student’s home address. Examples include a daycare provider, local recreation center or family member’s residence.
How Families Can Apply
Parents and legal guardians must download and complete the childcare and afterschool alternate-transportation form. A separate form is required for each student.
The completed form must be emailed or hand-delivered to the student’s school registrar or administrative office. Families will be notified of the decision by email through the student’s assigned school.
Each request is considered individually. ACPS says the alternate location generally must be inside the attendance boundary of the student’s assigned school. Requests involving locations outside that boundary are limited to established ACPS stops listed on the transportation page.
Students cannot begin using an alternate bus until the Transportation Office formally approves the request.
Review Blackout Begins Tuesday
ACPS will not review changes or new childcare and afterschool requests from Aug. 11 through Aug. 28 while staff process standard transportation assignments and mail information to families.
Requests from students who live inside a school walk zone are handled separately. Those families may apply through Aug. 30, but approval depends on available bus space and decisions may not be issued until Sept. 30.
Forms, instructions and approved out-of-boundary stops are available on the ACPS alternate-transportation page.
