Alexandria, VA – Alexandria will officially celebrate a little spooky science this fall.

Mayor and City Council are expected to join Chrysalis Development Group at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, to present a City Proclamation declaring the date “Spooky Mad Science Expo Day” in Alexandria. The proclamation is part of the nonprofit’s 11th annual Spooky Mad Science Expo, set for 3 to 7 p.m. at Patrick Henry Recreation Center.

The free family-friendly event brings science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics to life through hands-on activities and interactive demonstrations. Last year’s Expo drew more than 3,500 people and featured more than 100 experiences led by universities, research organizations, educators, companies and community partners.

Chrysalis Development Group, a Northern Virginia nonprofit, uses immersive STEAM programming to help young people—especially those from underserved communities—explore new interests and see themselves in future STEM careers.
