Early Voting Is Now Open in Alexandria for the Nov. 3 General Election
Voters can begin casting ballots Sept. 18 at the Office of Voter Registration & Elections on North Royal Street.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — Alexandria’s in-person early voting period for the Nov. 3 general election opened Friday, Sept. 18, giving city voters more than six weeks to cast a ballot before Election Day.
Early voting will begin at the Office of Voter Registration & Elections, 132 N. Royal St., Suite 100. Regular weekday hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. No appointment is required. The office will be closed Oct. 12.
The City’s sample ballot shows contests for U.S. Senate and Virginia’s 8th Congressional District, along with three proposed amendments to the Virginia Constitution.
For U.S. Senate, the ballot lists Democrat Mark R. Warner and Republican Bert Mizusawa. The 8th District U.S. House race lists Democrat Donald S. Beyer Jr., Republican Tony A. Sabio, Libertarian Shelly M. Arnoldi and independent Tim S. Sharman.
The three statewide amendment questions address reproductive care and abortion protections; marriage equality; and voting rights, including restoration of voting rights after release from incarceration. Voters can read the full ballot language on the City’s official sample-ballot page.
More Early Voting Hours Come in October
Additional weekend and evening hours begin later in October. Beatley Central Library, 5005 Duke St., will open as an additional early-voting location beginning Sunday, Oct. 18. The Royal Street office will also add extended evening and weekend hours. The final day to vote early in person at either location is Saturday, Oct. 31.
A secure outdoor ballot drop box in front of the Royal Street elections office will be available 24 hours a day from the start of early voting through 7 p.m. on Election Day, according to the City.
The deadline to register to vote in advance of the election — or update an existing registration — is Friday, Oct. 23. That is also the deadline to request a ballot by mail.
