Alexandria, VA – Is Alexandria City Public Schools meeting the mark for its students—and what should the city do next?

That question will guide Agenda:Alexandria’s October program, “Is ACPS Meeting the Mark?” on Monday, Oct. 26, at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial.

The evening begins with food, refreshments and conversation at 6:30 p.m., followed by a moderated panel discussion from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Four panelists representing a range of education expertise and perspectives will be announced closer to the event.

The discussion will examine Virginia Standards of Learning test results, Alexandria’s trajectory over time, how ACPS compares with neighboring jurisdictions and what parents, city leaders and schools can do to help students succeed.

Agenda:Alexandria notes that the city directs roughly one-third of its budget to education. The forum will also invite questions about testing, school funding and how education resources are being used.

The program is at the Masonic Memorial, 101 Callahan Drive. Parking is free. Admission is free for current Agenda:Alexandria members and $10 at the door for nonmembers. Individual annual membership is $50; family membership is $80 and is tax-deductible. Learn more at agendaalexandria.org.

Agenda:Alexandria is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization that fosters informed debate and discussion on a wide range of local issues without taking a position.
