Sean Casey, Alexandria Sheriff’s Office Captain, Graduates Public Leadership Program
ALEXANDRIA, VA – How does someone become a more effective leader? Just ask Captain Sean Casey of the Alexandria Sheriff’s Office. He graduated in October from the Institute for Regional Excellence (IRE). The IRE is supported by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments.
For the past year, Casey took courses in leadership and team building to become a Certified Public Manager®. He was presented with the designation and a certificate on-site at The George Washington University.
“I’m proud of Captain Casey for pursuing this challenging opportunity and for representing the Sheriff’s Office so well among other area agencies,” said Sheriff Dana Lawhorne. “While he is the first from the Sheriff’s Office to graduate from the Regional Executive Development Program, I’m confident he won’t be the last.”
Before this experience, Casey enrolled in programs specifically tailored for leadership in law enforcement. The IRE program allowed him to expand his knowledge of leadership beyond his field.
The curriculum for the Regional Executive Development Program included personal and organizational integrity, systematic integration, public service, managing work, and leading people. It focused on problem solving at the regional level.
For acceptance into the program, Casey had to apply through the City of Alexandria, which then selected candidates for consideration by the IRE.
