Take a Stick, Leave a Stick
ALEXANDRIA, VA–You have probably seen those cute Little Free Libraries that are sprinkled in front yards around town. Well, today I happened upon a canine friendly Stick Library on Mt. Vernon Ave.
Leah Drennan and her dog Roxy live on Mt. Vernon Ave across from George Washington Middle School. Leah always sees people with their dogs walking down the street or playing in the grass near the school. She had seen those Little Free Libraries around town, when, suddenly, she happened upon an article about a different kind of Little Free Library: A Stick Library for dogs.
The article details how a family in Saskatoon, Canada, “kept their dogs happy during this frigid winter.” When Leah read this article, she thought, “I could do that for our neighborhood.”
So, she took to Amazon and ordered the parts to create her own furry-friendly library.
Composed of a wooden base and edges, resting on four legs, with the words Stick Library delicately stenciled across the front, the Stick Library resides underneath a handsome tree in Leah’s front yard.
Leah’s Stick Library has been up and running since Monday evening of March 1, 2021. “I just thought it would be cute, and I’m hoping that it will be a fun thing for dogs and owners to discover.”
Filled with sticks from the robust to the dainty, and tennis balls galore, all are welcome to swing by and grab a stick or leave a stick.
Great story from a friend of Zebra and also Kevin Dauray.
