ALEXANDRIA, VA-Yesterday evening, the City of Alexandria announced that Don Hayes has been appointing Acting Police Chief with the Alexandria Police Department. Selected by City Manager Mark B. Jinks, he will assume the role on June 25, upon the retirement of Chief Michael L. Brown.

In 1999 he attained the rank of lieutenant, the rank of captain in 2013, and assistant chief in 2019. With his experience, he is now overseeing all parts of the department.
