ALEXANDRIA, VA – Channel 7 reporter Victoria Sanchez captured the light-hearted attitudes among many in Old Town Alexandria as high-tide and heavy rains converged on Friday afternoon, October 29, 2021.

A couple was spotted setting sail in a canoe down the main drag of King Street, in what is now permanently reserved only for pedestrians these days, since a recent City Council vote. “Any time it gets up high enough that I can do this, you know, why the heck not,” said Mr. Harmon, who expertly paddled the craft from sidewalk to the streaming street. https://twitter.com/VictoriaSanchez/status/1454199893799604225?s=20

Sporting life jackets and recalling the spirits of Venice gondoliers, the pair laughed and gathered plenty of happy attention.
