ALEXANDRIA, VA-Nicholas Huntsman, a fourth grader at George Mason Elementary School, was honored by the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. Founded in 1979, “[t]he CTY is dedicated to advancing the field of gifted education through research on testing, programs, and other supports for advanced learners,” according to a press release.
Huntsman was recognized for exceptional performance during testing. Test-takers take either the SAT, ACT, School and College Ability Test, or a similar assessment. These tests identify candidates for the organization’s Talent Search program. Being above the student’s current grade level, they help in the search for advanced students worldwide.
In addition, he also qualified for CTY’s Online and On-Campus Programs.
Every year roughly 16,000 sttudents from 90 countries join CTY. Only about 30 percent of those qualify for High Honors or Grand Honors based on their test scores.
