Restaurants are painting the town rainbow in support of National Pride Month

Alexandria, VA – Restaurants are painting the town rainbow in support of National Pride Month and the Washington, DC Pride Festival this June. The Birdcage, projected onto a wall in a secret courtyard. An Italian almond rainbow cake. A colorful ‘Pride Cone’ and a Pride Parade viewing party are among the many ways restaurants are offering Washingtonians a way to show their Pride and celebrate love.  National Pride Month is celebrated throughout June and the Capital Pride Festival runs from May 31st – June 9th, with the Pride Parade taking place on June 8th. 2019 Pride celebrations include:

Brabo Brasserie: Rainbow Baked Alaska

Brabo Brasserie Rainbow Baked Alaska

Throughout the month of June, Brabo Brasserie in Alexandria is swirling a rainbow into their signature dessert with the colorful Rainbow Baked Alaska. The Rainbow Baked Alaska features layers of dense dark chocolate cake, chocolate ganache, cherries and Kirsch frozen mousse, positioned inside of an airy rainbow colored meringue before being flambeed tableside with 100 proof Virginia brandy infused for thirty days with whole vanilla beans and Grand Marnier. Brabo Brasserie will donate $1 from each $13 Rainbow Baked Alaska sold to The Trevor Project, an American non-profit organization focusing on suicide prevention among LGBTQ youth.

Tasting Room: Pride Movie Night

On June 8th, the Brabo Tasting Room in Alexandria is celebrating Pride with cinematic, comedic awesomeness at a Pride Movie Night. The Birdcage will be projected onto a wall  in the stunning courtyard for an alfresco cinema featuring outdoor seating, summer cocktails and a movie snack menu. The Pride Movie Night al fresco screening of The Birdcage will run in a loop all night on June 8th, beginning at 3:00 pm, then at 5:00 pm, and 7:00 pm.

Le Diplomate: Rainbow Cones & Pride Parade Patio Party

During the DC Pride Festival, Le Diplomate‘s curbside Glaces de Diplomate ice cream cart from Michelin-star pastry chef Fabrice Bendano will feature a colorful Rainbow Cone, creamy French-style glace made in house daily, covered completely in colorful rainbow sprinkles. ALL proceeds from the $5 cone being donated to the Capital Pride Alliance.

As one of the Capital Pride Parade’s prime viewing locations, Le Diplomate will extend the 14th Street patio  from 4:30 pm – 7:30 pm and offer cocktail specials and an ideal viewing venue for celebratory revelry.

Osteria Morini DC: Rainbow Pride Cake

At Osteria Morini, pastry chef, Tova Hillman and team are celebrating Capital Pride Festival with a colorful and decadent Rainbow Italian Almond Cake. The cake, made from a fine almond flour blend, is five layers of colorful almond cake separated by sweet and tangy layers of raspberry and apricot jam and coated in a silky dark chocolate glaze. The five layer Rainbow Almond Cake will be offered from May 31st through June 9th, for $11 with 20% of the proceeds going to Casa Ruby. Casa Ruby gathers and shares success stories among transgender, genderqueer, gender non-conforming, gay, lesbian and bisexual individuals to strengthen community and understanding.

Nicoletta Italian Kitchen is celebrating Capital Pride Festival with the Pride Sundae from May 31st – June 9th. The Pride Sundae features rainbow colored cake bites, sweet chocolate sauce, with a smooth fior di latte vanilla soft-serve, decorated with festive rainbow sprinkles. The newest restaurant in Mt. Vernon Triangle will serve their creamy and vibrant dessert for $7 to support The Trevor Project with 20% of the proceeds going to the organization.
