ALEXANDRIA, VA — Get ready for a party as Alexandria marks its 276th birthday alongside America’s 249th with one epic celebration on Saturday, July 12 at scenic Oronoco Bay Park! The evening promises something for everyone—from music and poetry to cannons, cupcakes, and a dazzling fireworks show to light up the waterfront sky.

The fun kicks off at 6 p.m. with DJ Geena Marie setting the vibe while local legend George Worrell serves as the evening’s ever-charming emcee. From there, Alexandria brings out the local stars: Mayor Alyia Gaskins, Poet Laureate Maria Cristina Donoso, and the City Council, who will hand out free cupcakes (thanks to Wegmans!) starting at 8 p.m.—get there early before they’re gone!

But that’s just the appetizer. The Alexandria Symphony Orchestra takes the stage at 8:30 p.m., leading into the evening’s fireworks finale at 9:30 p.m.—complete with ceremonial cannons courtesy of the U.S. Army’s Presidential Salute Battery.

Fuel up at local food trucks and cool down with award-winning craft brews from Port City Brewing Company. Explore handmade treasures in the Made in ALX Arts & Retail Area, curated in partnership with the City’s Office of the Arts.

STAY COOL, STAY GREEN

  • Virginia American Water is bringing a free misting tent and water station.

  • DASH will offer two air-conditioned cooling buses nearby.

  • Dominion Energy will provide solar-powered charging stations.

  • GO Alex will run a bike/scooter/stroller valet—so ditch the car and roll in!
