The Four Mile Run Conservatory Foundation for ADA-Accessible Water Access Project Received $77,000

Alexandria, VA –The American Water Charitable Foundation and Virginia American Water proudly presented a $77,000 grant to the Four Mile Run Conservatory Foundation on Tuesday, July 8, supporting the construction of the first public ADA-accessible kayak and canoe launch in the DC metro area.
The check presentation was attended by American Water representatives and Four Mile Run Conservatory Foundation leaders, including co-founder and president Kurt Moser and board chair Nancy Hwa.
The funding is part of the Foundation’s 2025 Water and Environment grant initiative, which awarded a total of $165,200 to three impactful environmental projects in communities served by Virginia American Water.
“We are proud to again partner with the American Water Charitable Foundation in granting funding to organizations that share our commitment to environmental sustainability,” said Laura Runkle, President, Virginia American Water. “Their efforts to promote responsible use and protection of natural resources are critical to the work our employees do every day…being a steward of the environment is a fundamental part of the positive impact we have in the communities we serve.”
The $77,000 grant will help fund a new ADA-accessible launch site at lower Four Mile Run Park in Alexandria, improving access to water-based recreation for all residents and supporting ongoing environmental restoration in the area.
“We are so thrilled and appreciative to have received funding from the American Water Charitable Foundation to help build a public and ADA-accessible launch for kayaks and canoes at lower Four Mile Run in Alexandria — the first such launch in the DC metro area. Each year, the Virginia American Water team volunteers for our kayak clean-up program to help keep Four Mile Run litter-free, and we’re happy to have the Foundation as a supporter of our efforts to beautify and improve Four Mile Run Park”, said Kurt Moser, president of the Four Mile Run Conservatory Foundation.
