Alexandria, VA – A press release issued by Alexandria City Public Schools named ten nominees for the Athletic Hall of Fame. At the top of the list is Julius Campbell, a key member of the T.C. Williams Titans football team that won the state championship in 1971. That team would later be immortalized in the 2000 Disney film Remember the Titans. Campbell, who died in January of this year, will be honored for his play on the field that unforgettable season almost five decades ago.

The other honorees are: T.C. basketball players Cavanaugh Hagen, Frank Holloway, and Glenn Williams; G.W. High School’s Walter Densmore, who graduated in 1957; the entire 1957 Parker-Gray Boys Basketball team; their coach, Arnold Thurmond; and T.C. track stars Sanella Koroma, Tanya Galloway, and Ricky Garcia.

These athletes represent our Titan spirit,” said T.C. Athletic Director James Parker. “[A]nd have demonstrated first-hand not only great determination but also the values for which T.C. Williams stands.”

Every year, the Alexandria City School Board’s Athletic Hall of Fame Advisory Committee reviews nominations from the community of high school athletes, teams, and coaches for the Hall. Selection is based upon their athletic accomplishments at all levels: high school, college, and professional. The role each student-athlete played in his or her community is a determining factor as well.

The ceremony will be held October 4.
