Spring Garden Market Returns to River Farm with Special Guest Speaker Christin Geall

ALEXANDRIA, VA — The American Horticultural Society (AHS) has announced that writer and floral designer Christin Geall will be the featured guest speaker at the 2026 Spring Garden Market at River Farm. The popular two-day event takes place April 10–11, 2026, at River Farm, AHS’ headquarters in Alexandria.

Groundbreaking, unique, and beautiful, Flora Culture: How Flowers Shape Our World features over 250 images from over 40 countries, taking readers on a journey across cultures and continents in search of a deeper understanding of how we might live with plants on a changing planet. 

Geall is the author of the acclaimed book Flora Culture: How Flowers Shape Our World, which explores the ways flowers influence culture, design, and our relationships with the natural world. During the Spring Garden Market, she will lead two educational sessions for attendees:

Creating a Cutting Garden — Friday, April 10 at 1 p.m.
Developing Floral Arrangements — Saturday, April 11 at 10 a.m.

The Spring Garden Market is one of Northern Virginia’s most anticipated gardening events and serves as a seasonal kickoff for plant lovers across the region. The market features native plants, herbs, seeds, original art, gardening tools, and specialty finds. Visitors can also speak with horticultural experts, enjoy food offerings, and tour River Farm’s gardens and historic manor house, which overlooks the Potomac River.

Drawing more than 2,000 attendees annually, the Spring Garden Market is one of River Farm’s largest fundraisers, supporting the preservation of the historic property and the educational mission of the American Horticultural Society.

Founded in 1922, the American Horticultural Society is one of the most respected gardening nonprofits in North America. Its Alexandria headquarters, River Farm, is a 25-acre site that was once part of George Washington’s original farmland.
