ALEXANDRIA, VA – On Wednesday, June 3, The Twig Alexandria (Together We Ignite Giving) presented a $450,000 donation to Inova Alexandria Hospital at their annual luncheon. This donation fulfills their three-year pledge of $500,000 ahead of schedule, and marks the beginning of a new six-year, $2 million pledge.

The Twig is a volunteer-run organization that has been providing fundraising and support for the Alexandria Hospital since 1933. The Twig supports its philanthropic efforts through its Old Town thrift shop, its annual Historic Alexandria Homes Tours, and donations from outside.

The donation will aid in the development of Inova Alexandria Hospital’s new Landmark campus and conference center, the latter of which will be named in recognition of The Twig’s work. The CEO of Inova Alexandria Hospital, Dr. Rina Bansal, remarked on that honor.

“We wouldn’t be where we are without our auxiliaries, and specifically with The Twig, they have supported us and they’ve been right by our side as we’ve grown.”

Inova Alexandria Hospital’s new campus is planned for the site that previously housed the Landmark Mall. This development is currently still under construction and is expected to begin operations in 2028.

The Belle Haven Country Club served as the venue for the luncheon, where volunteers from the Twig came together to dine, chat, and celebrate their donation. The event offered the Twig’s members both a moment of reflection on the year behind them and a look ahead to what the future has in store for the organization.

A big part of that future will be the new president of The Twig, Maureen McGuire-Kuletz, who was sworn into her position at the luncheon. She received further honors during the ceremonial gavel-passing, where Maureen took her place alongside previous presidents of The Twig.

“I am honored to serve as the next President of The Twig and to help carry forward a legacy that has supported healthcare in Alexandria for more than 90 years. The new Inova Alexandria Hospital is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to strengthen medical care in our community, and The Twig is proud to be part of that effort.”

Lori Ring, the outgoing president of The Twig, affirmed her confidence in the organization’s new leadership.

“Maureen will do an excellent job honoring Twig’s traditions and sustaining the success that enables us to fulfill our mission to the hospital and the community.”

The luncheon came during an important period of change for both The Twig and Inova Alexandria Hospital. With The Twig transitioning to a new administration team, and Inova navigating the multi-year construction of their new Landmark campus, the continued collaboration between the two organizations is a crucial tenet of their shared future.
