Maison Breizh was inspired by Chef Michelle’s time in from family trips to Normandy and professional training at L’Atelier de la Crêpe in Saint-Malo, one of Brittany’s renowned culinary destinations, a coastal region in northwestern France known for its buckwheat galettes, sweet crêpes, and crisp ciders. Located within Bastille Brasserie & Bar in Old Town Alexandria, Maison Breizh aims to transport diners to the French countryside without leaving Northern Virginia.

Sarrasin, or buckwheat brings a light nutty flavor as the defining ingredient in a traditional Breton galette. Each galette is crafted with crisp edges, fillings, sauces, and seasonal ingredients designed to highlight the simplicity and elegance of Brittany’s cuisine. Gluten-free guests can enjoy buckwheat galettes as they are gluten-free. Sweet crêpes, made with wheat flour complement the menu along with  French ciders that pair naturally with the dishes.

The menu features hors d’oeuveres, many made with a galette or seafood familiar in Normandy. Croustillants feature three seafood rillettes served with buckwheat crisps. Maison Rolls are chilled French wraps made with buckwheat galettes. The Galettes de Sarrasin are filled with a variety of fillings and accompanied with a petite salade. Crepes de Froment are sweet and feature various delicious sounding flavors.

After try the Compléte Galette made with egg, Parisian ham, and Gruyere, we can say that Maison Breizh provides a new and unique way to enjoy a quick lunch in Old Town. Maison Breizh is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at 1205 Pendleton St. For the menu and additional information, visit maisonbreizhva.com.
