Alexandria’s Annual Twig Donation Day Returns Saturday August 15

Gently Used Items Can Help Support Patient Care and Healthcare Initiatives At Inova Alexandria Hospital

Alexandria VA – Alexandria residents will have an opportunity this Saturday, Aug. 15, to clear out closets, repurpose gently used items and support a longtime local organization dedicated to helping Inova Alexandria Hospital. The Twig will hold its annual donation collection event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at 106 N. Columbus St.

Convenient parking will be available directly in front of the store, making it easier for donors to drop off their contributions. Volunteers will be on hand to accept donations and assist contributors as they unload their items. The Twig will also provide tax donation receipts for eligible donations.

Turning Donations Into Support for Alexandria Healthcare

Items donated during the annual collection event may be sold through The Twig Thrift Shop, with proceeds helping support patient care, medical equipment and healthcare initiatives connected to Inova Alexandria Hospital.

The Twig has been part of Alexandria’s community for generations. Founded in 1933 by the Junior Auxiliary of Inova Alexandria Hospital, the volunteer organization is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission centered on supporting healthcare in the city.

According to The Twig, the organization has contributed more than $7 million to healthcare in Alexandria since its founding.

A Longstanding Alexandria Tradition

Fundraising efforts extend beyond the thrift shop. The Twig also raises money through events including its Historic Homes Tour and other community initiatives.

For donors, Saturday’s event offers a simple way to give unwanted but gently used belongings a new purpose. For the community, each donation can help support an organization with a long history of investing in healthcare services and resources for Alexandria residents.

Acceptable donations include: Gently Used, Clean Clothes, Jewelry, Shoes, Accessories, Tableware, Home Accessories, Kitchen Goods, Small Household Appliances, Glasses And Dishware, Serving Pieces, Artwork, Table Linens, Lamps, Seasonal And Holiday Decorations, Books and DVDs, Sporting Equipment, Collectibles, Small Furniture (e.g., Book Cases), Small Chairs

Items that cannot be donated include: Wedding Gowns, Dirty Or Soiled Garments, Children’s Clothing or Toys, Bedding, Food, Cosmetics, Toiletries, TVs, Computer Equipment, Textbooks or Encyclopedias, Large Furniture, Appliances That Do Not Work, Broken Furniture, Underwear, Bathing Suits, VHS/DVD Players, Anything Broken or Doesn’t Work.

As volunteers prepare to welcome donors, residents are encouraged to gather suitable items and bring them to The Twig during the three-hour collection period.
