Alexandria Native Brings Fabled Ice Cream Home

Alexandria VA – Alexandria native Ally Kirkpatrick is bringing her love of ice cream and storytelling closer to home with plans for the first brick-and-mortar location of Fabled Ice Cream.The small-batch ice cream company plans to open at 7940 Fort Hunt Road in the Hollin Hall Shopping Center, with the space now entering its build-out phase. The shop is expected to open in 2027.

A Personal Connection to Hollin Hall

For Kirkpatrick, the location represents more than a business opportunity. She grew up visiting Hollin Hall and hopes the future shop becomes part of the neighborhood’s everyday life.

“I grew up going to Hollin Hall, so opening Fabled here feels especially meaningful,” Kirkpatrick said. “I want Fabled to become the kind of neighborhood place that gets woven into people’s lives. A stop after a baseball game. A place to celebrate a good report card or a birthday. Somewhere kids can bike to for a cone and families can linger together on a summer evening.”

Ice Cream Inspired by Books

Fabled specializes in hard ice cream made in small batches with grass-fed dairy. Its rotating flavors are inspired by books and storytelling, giving the brand a literary connection that fits naturally with Kirkpatrick’s role as owner of Old Town Books.

The new Hollin Hall location will combine production and a traditional scoop counter, with cones, cups, sundaes, milkshakes and seasonal flavors planned for the menu.

Fabled Is Already Scooping

Alexandria-area residents don’t have to wait until 2027 to try Fabled.

Pints are currently available through weekly Friday pickups at Old Town Books, 130 S. Royal St. The company’s ice cream trike also makes appearances at the farmers market at 2501 Sherwood Hall Lane, with upcoming dates scheduled for Aug. 26, Sept. 23, Oct. 21 and Nov. 18, from 8 a.m. to noon.

For local ice cream fans, the future Hollin Hall shop could turn a familiar neighborhood stop into a new Alexandria tradition.
