Bring the Whole Menagerie: Trinity’s Annual Pet Blessing Is Sept. 26
ALEXANDRIA, VA—Whether your best friend barks, purrs, chirps or answers to something a little more unusual, Trinity United Methodist Church has a place for both of you at its annual Blessing of the Animals on Saturday, Sept. 26.
The free community gathering begins promptly at 9 a.m. beneath the stately oak trees at the church, located at 2911 Cameron Mills Road. The public is invited, and all are welcome—no exceptions.
Held in memory of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, the annual event is known for a morning filled with love, laughter and more than a few wagging tails.
Guests may bring a dog, cat, bird or any other cherished pet to be individually blessed by Lay Minister Tom Tyler. Those whose animals are elderly, ill, nervous travelers or otherwise unable to attend may bring a photograph instead.
Every animal blessed will receive a personalized printed certificate featuring the pet’s name in calligraphy by Trinity artist Ellan Moore—a sweet keepsake honoring the bond between people and the animals they love.
Water and dog treats will be provided. Organizers ask guests to arrive between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m. so everyone can be settled before the blessing begins promptly at 9.
Free parking is available along the street and in adjacent parking lots.
