Alexandria, VA – Earlier today Gov. Ralph S. Northam (D-VA) signed Executive Order 62, which ensures that Northern Virginia’s lockdown restrictions will remain, at least until May 29.

While other areas of the Commonwealth will begin to ease restrictions later this week, in accordance with Phase One of his Forward Virginia plan, the governor is aware of the increasing number of coronairus cases in Alexandria and its neighboring counties.

In an interview with The Washington Post, he said that his main concern is safety, when asked about restarting the region’s economy.

Northam has not wavered from his approach during the crisis.

“I have stuck to using data. As I said, I’m a physician,” he told The Post. “I follow the data every day. I follow the CDC guidelines.”

The governor suggested that restrictions could go beyond May 29, if data does not show improvement.

On May 10, Alexandria Mayor Justin M. Wilson and county leaders wrote a letter to Gov. Northam, supporting his plan for Virginia, but expressed concern for this region.

  1. Enough is enough already. How about a classification of the people testing positive?, Are they in nursing homes, A large number of people living in a small living space etc. I’m 57 overweight with high blood pressure and diabetes and I’ve been active with work and running daily errands yet I’m perfectly healthy. People need to work and make a living. I understand about Social distancing and wearing masks but yet I see plenty of idiots walking around acting indifferent. Perhaps stricter punishment for those who don’t comply should be in order but come May 29th it’s time to reopen our communities.
