Fill Out the 2020 Census? Census Takers Visiting Alexandria Soon
Federal law requires that each household completes the census
ALEXANDRIA, VA – Have you filled out the 2020 Census? Every household in Alexandria needs to be counted. Each census helps determine how the government should distribute funds, where businesses should be built, and much more. So the information collected in Alexandria goes a long way toward helping this community.
Later this month census takers will begin visiting households that have not yet completed the 2020 Census. The visits will last approximately 10 minutes, the questions asked will be easy, and it is safe to provide information.
What to Expect
1) Census takers will be required to wear masks when visiting. They will follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health guidelines. Before visiting, they must take virtual COVID-19 training regarding physical distancing and other protocols.
2) Census takers will most likely be Alexandria residents. Some will be bilingual. If someone visits a household and does not speak Spanish, family members can request that another census taker visit. All who visit will carry materials in multiple languages to help identify themselves and their purpose.
3) If no one is home when a census taker stops by, the person will leave information about how to respond by phone, email, or online.
Identifying Census Takers
Census takers can be identified by a valid government I.D. with photograph, expiration date, and U.S. Department of Commerce watermark. For confirmation of identity in Virginia, call 267-780-2600. The Philadelphia office oversees East Coast states.
