The Stupendous Works of the Great Architect

The Alexandria Historical Society (AHS), the George Washington Masonic National Memorial and the Office of Historic Alexandria present Exploring the History of the Alexandria Museum

Wednesday, June 27 – 7:30 pm

The Alexandria Historical Society, the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, and the Office of Historic Alexandria present an exploration of the Alexandria Museum.  Under the auspices of Alexandria Washington Lodge No 22, the Alexandria Museum was established in 1812 and became a public venue for the preservation and display of a range of artifacts, from natural history specimens and ethnographic collections to material related to George Washington and the young Republic.  The presentation will explore the origins of the collection, its history through the 19th century, and its unique place in the history of American museums.

Tim Winkle is the Archivist for the collections held by Alexandria Washington Lodge No 22 and serves as a curator with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.

Tickets are $5 for non-members, and free to members of the Alexandria Historical Society.Memberships can be purchased at the door.

Early arrivals by 7:00 pm will be offered access to the GWMNM tower observation platform (weather dependent) before the program which starts at 7:30 pm.
