Pat Malone

Pat Malone writes about Alexandria for The Zebra Press, covering the people, events and local stories that shape the city. As a second-generation Washingtonian, he grew up around sports as the son of Charles Malone, initially an assistant golf professional at Norbeck Country Club in Olney, Maryland. That early connection grew into a lifelong commitment to baseball. Patrick founded the Washington Senators Fan Club in 1984, advised the D.C. Baseball Commission, and co-founded the Alexandria Aces in 2008, serving as the team’s first president and general manager. He also designed the Aces’ “A” logo and created its “Where Legends Begin” slogan. Malone later served as executive director of the Cal Ripken Sr. Collegiate Baseball League. A retired U.S. Air Force veteran, Malone served for 20 years, including assignments at the Pentagon and in the Immediate Office of the Secretary of Defense. His work included supporting the Office of Personal Security to the Secretary of Defense. He has also worked in sports marketing, promotions and event operations. An Alexandria resident, Malone brings decades of experience in baseball and community life to his reporting for The Zebra Press.
