Spring2ACTion Raises $2.1 Million, Breaks Record For Single Day Of Online Giving

The record has been broken! On April 10, more than 9,600 online donors gave $2.1 million to 166 local charities and nonprofits.

ALEXANDRIA, VA – The record has been broken! On April 10, more than 9,600 online donors gave $2.1 million to 166 local charities and nonprofits. It was the biggest annual Spring2ACTion yet, eclipsing last year’s record of $1.8 million.

“We are so proud to be part of such a generous community” said Heather Peeler, CEO of ACT for Alexandria. “Once again, Alexandria came together to support the nonprofits
that are essential to our City.”

Running Brooke, a nonprofit dedicated to the health of Alexandria’s children, won the top prize for most dollars raised for the second year in a row, and received $125,827; followed by the Metropolitan School of the Arts with $68,825 and $62,086 for King Street Cats. The Alexandria Soccer Association had the most donors, raising $50,828 from 750 individuals.

Additionally, the nonprofit Local Motion Project, which needed $45,000 to stay afloat, raised $43,601 from 641 donors. All signs currently point to the dance studio remaining in business.

“Amazing,” said Local Motion co-founder Sara Lavan. “Onward. Now the real work starts.”

Spring2ACTion, which is hosted by the foundation ACT for Alexandria, was founded in 2011 and has raised more than $10 million for local nonprofits. All donations are tax deductible and irrevocable. In addition to awarding $40,000 in prizes, Alexandria’s Community Foundation leveraged additional dollars from to provide more than $380,000 in matching grants and gifts.

Other participating nonprofits included the Center for Alexandria’s ChildrenTenants and Workers UnitedCarpenter’s ShelterAgenda: Alexandria, the Alexandria Police Foundation and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.

An award ceremony for the top-earners will be held at Mia’s Italian Kitchen on May 3. See you there!
