ALEXANDRIA, VA – Solarize Alexandria, the city’s annual program that encourages residents to invest in solar energy options, is rebooting its annual campaign. This year, it runs through Aug. 31. During that time, participants will receive a free solar assessment of their property and discounts from companies for solar panel installation.

Learn more about Solarize Alexandria and its benefits with a webinar. It is being offered on the following days:

  • Wednesday, July 19, 12:30-1:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, August 1, 6-7 p.m.
  • Thursday, August 17, 3-4 p.m.

To participate, register HERE.

According to the Alexandria eNews bulletin, by taking part in the program, homeowners may be eligible for a real estate tax break and a federal tax credit – 26 to 30 percent – to help with the cost of installation. The bulletin says the “federal credit allows homeowners to deduct a percentage of a solar energy system’s installation cost from their federal taxes with no cap on the value.”

Solarize Alexandria is part of Solarize Virginia, an initiative managed by the nonprofit Local Energy Alliance Program.
