Alexandria saw more than its fair share of potholes this winter, and the city is adding staff overtime to repair potholes within 72 hours after they are reported. Plus, once the city’s “pothole blitz” starts on March 25, roads will be repaired within 48 hours after they are reported.

“We are seeing a record number of potholes this season, and we are taking action to address the problem,” City Manager Mark Jinks said in a statement. “We ask residents and businesses to look out for and report potholes so we can repair them as soon as possible.”

The city has reportedly received 619 reports of potholes in the last 10 weeks, versus 774 for all of the entire previous fiscal year.

Alexandrian Sheldon McLendon said that road conditions are terrible.

“Have I noticed the potholes? It’s like driving on rumble strips,” McLendon said. “It’s worse than I’ve ever seen it.”

To report a pothole, use Call.Click.Connect. 24 hours a day or call 703.746.HELP (4357) during normal business hours.
