Beloved Del Ray Community Leader, Thomas Paul Knoernschild, 58, Loses Battle

Thomas Paul Knoernschild, 58, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away on February 28, 2018 due to complications of soft tissue sarcoma.  Beloved husband of Lori Masters Knoernschild, and devoted father to Megan (David) McGuire and Justin Knoernschild.  He was preceded in death by his parents Melvin and Marion, and his sister Lou Ann. He is survived by his siblings, Michael (Connie), Peggy (Nat Seiden), and Tye (Janet).

The Del Ray Business Association presented its Lifetime Achievement Award to Tommy Knoernschild in December 2016. It was stated at the occasion, “There are some that have spent their lifetimes helping others and helping the community and Tommy Knoernschild is one of those unique people,” said Del Ray Business Association member Gayle Reuter. “Born and raised in Del Ray, you won’t find someone more giving and helpful & always with a smile,” said Gayle.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 6 at Everly Wheatley Funeral Home, 1500 West Braddock Road, Alexandria, VA. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Interment will follow at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kelley Cares, 203 East Luray Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22301.
