ALEXANDRIA, VA – Since it began in May, hundreds of Alexandria businesses have voluntarily joined the ALX Promise program, including restaurants and retail spaces. The employees associated with those businesses took part in a training program focused on health safety in light of the pandemic.
Recently, the City of Alexandria announced that the training is now available in Spanish. Making the training available to Spanish-speaking workers means that it can reach a segment of the city’s population hard-hit by the coronavirus.
ALX Promise is a joint effort between the Alexandria Health Department (AHD), Visit Alexandria, and the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce.
After completing training with AHD, businesses receive the ALX Promise shield, a sticker to display on their door or window
“When customers see the ALX Promise shield displayed on a business’s window or website,” reads the ALX Promise webpage, “they will know that the business has committed to higher safety standards for employees and customers than the minimum rules required by law for all businesses.”.
According to that webpage, the shield signifies adherence to the following:
1) Participation in training with AHD to reopen a business
2) All employees trained in safety measures to reopen
3) Submitted a completed checklist, record of training, and signed a pledge
4) Agrees to follow future health guidelines for new reopening phases
